Stephen A. Sherwin, M.D.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Sherwin has served as chief executive officer and a director
of Cell Genesys since March 1990. In March 1994, he was elected chairman
of the board. From 1983 to 1990, he held various positions at Genentech,
Inc., a biotechnology company, most recently as vice president of
clinical research. Prior to 1983, Dr. Sherwin was on the staff of
the National Cancer Institute. He currently serves as the chairman
of the board of Ceregene, Inc., a subsidiary of Cell
Genesys, Inc. He is also a director of Abgenix, Inc., Neurocrine
Biosciences, Inc., Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and privately owned
Calyx Therapeutics,
Inc. Dr. Sherwin, who also serves as a board member of the Biotechnology
Industry Organization, holds a B.A. in biology from Yale University,
an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and is board-certified in internal
medicine and medical oncology. |
