James M. Gower, Director
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Mr. Gower has served as a director of Cell Genesys since July 1996.
In 1996, Mr. Gower became chairman and chief executive officer of
Rigel, Inc. From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Gower served as president and chief
executive officer of Tularik, Inc. From 1981 to 1990, he was with
Genentech, Inc., most recently as senior vice president responsible
for sales, marketing, business development and product planning. From
1972 to 1981, Mr. Gower served in a variety of positions in sales
and marketing at American Hospital Supply Corporation, most recently
as vice president of marketing. Mr. Gower received a B.S. degree in
operations research and an M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee.
